The Process of Rehoming Trust Donkeys
Upon an application form being submitted to join the Trust’s rehoming programme, the process is as follows.
1. If you meet the Trust’s requirements to join the rehoming programme, you will be added to our waiting list. A Trust guardian may contact you to discuss your application further.
2. We will then contact you once we can match you with a donkey in the rehoming programme and a Trust guardian will arrange with you to visit your property. You will be encouraged to meet the donkey if possible before any final decision is made.
3. If the Trust is satisfied that you and your property meet all our criteria, the Trust may perform a background check to verify personal information.
4. If all is in order, a custodian agreement will then be signed which includes a minimum three-month trial period and arrangements will be made to deliver the donkey to you.
5. The Trust will provide you with a copy of the donkey’s passport which contains information about the donkey including any special care requirements.
6. As part of the rehoming process, we will agree a plan with you regarding future communication and updates, support, and visits.
7. At the end of the trial period a Trust guardian will review with you how things are going. If you wish to continue in the rehoming programme, we will update your agreed plan and, if necessary, the custodian agreement.
8. The Trust understands that circumstances can change and if you find you are no longer able to care for your rehomed donkey(s) all you need to do is contact the Trust and we will uplift the donkey(s) as soon as possible.
As the Trust guardians are volunteers, we may ask you to reimburse the Trust for the transport costs associated with dropping off a rehomed donkey to your property.
