Trust Donkeys Available for Rehoming

These donkeys are currently available for rehoming from The Donkey and Mule Protection Trust NZ.  If you are interested in applying to become a custodian of any of these donkeys,  you may apply online by completing and submitting the form here.  If none of these donkeys are for you, you may still apply to go on our waiting list for future donkeys that may become available.

We strongly recommend you read the information on donkey care available on this website in particular ” I would love a donkey..” and the Donkey Dictionary to make sure donkeys are right for you.

Please note that single donkeys will only be rehomed where there is already at least one donkey in residence; a property inspection will be required;  and there will be a minimum of a three month trial period.  The Trust is under no obligation to rehome any animal and decisions are final.

Thelma, Daisy Louise, and Posie (L-R) are three lovely girls who are looking their for their next, and hopefully, final home.  Thelma (11 yrs old) and Daisy (10 years old) are sisters, and Posie (9 yrs old) is Thelma’s daughter.  Even though Thelma was very young when she gave birth, all three donkeys are in excellent condition.  These three donkeys must be remain together.  They are currently located in the Wairarapa.  While they are all socialised and can be led, Daisy and Posie are not too keen on having their rear feet trimmed.  They are improving with each visit but will need a patient farrier, who likes donkeys, to trim them.  If you are located in the Wairarapa they can continue with their existing farrier.   You will need at least 2ha of land, a suitable roomy waterproof shed that the girls would have 24/7 access to, and a hard stand area so they can get out of the mud.  Worming and dentals are all up to date.  If you would like to become these lovely ladies’ custodian, please complete the form here.  We would prefer their new home is in the Lower North Island so they do not have to travel far, and transport costs will be paid by the successful applicant. A property inspection will be undertaken before any decision is made.
