Become a Donkey Custodian
Become a Custodian, Not an Owner
Give a Trust donkey a safe, long-term home while we continue to protect its welfare.
How It Works
We rehome donkeys through a custodianship model.
- You provide the day-to-day care
- We retain ownership and oversight
- The donkey is always protected for life
If your circumstances change, the donkey comes back to us.
What You’re Committing To
Becoming a custodian is a long-term responsibility:
- Sign a Custodian Agreement
- Cover all ongoing costs (feed, vet, farrier, medication)
- Complete a minimum 3-month trial period
Are You Eligible?
We carefully match each donkey to the right home:
- Donkeys are rehomed only after rehabilitation
- You must have relevant experience and facilities
- Single donkey rehoming requires you to already own a donkey
Ongoing Support & Oversight
We stay involved to ensure every donkey thrives:
- Regular check-ins and communication
- Ongoing support and guidance
- Occasional visits and updates
Health concerns must be discussed with us (or a vet in emergencies).
Important Rules
These are non-negotiable:
- You do not own the donkey
- You cannot sell, give away, or lease it
- The donkey must be returned if you can no longer care for it
- No breeding, riding, or harness work unless approved
Costs
- No rehoming fee
- You may need to cover transport costs
- Donations are appreciated
